How Farhaj Sarwar is Helping The People Of Nepal Affected by The Earthquake
By Space Coast Daily // December 11, 2022

Farhaj Sarwar has been doing a lot lately for the needy all across the globe. One of the many instances that had all the international media outlets talking about was the effort done by NRS International to help the people impacted heavily by the earthquake that struck Nepal.
NRS International is the brainchild of Farhaj and it is one of the many companies that the businessman owns and runs. It is a family-owned company but is known for its numerous humanitarian efforts all across the globe.
The company has a workforce of 7,000 people and constantly grows as we speak. Based in Lahore, Pakistan, NRS International has been actively involved in bringing sanity to the people of Nepal who have been strongly impacted by the earthquake, and lost livelihoods, loved ones, homes, and families.
What brought everyone to notice NRS International was the rapid response strategy of the company. A considerable number of people were affected by this earthquake and NRS Relief stepped up to make sure that those people were constantly supplied with emergency relief items whenever they required them.
NRS International has worked with several UN Agencies in the past as well. This time around they sought the help of both local charities and national non for profit organizations to make this happen.
According to reports, the entire effort took quite a bit of the company’s resources and a lot of research and heavy lifting as well. Because the geography of Nepal is very complex and difficult to navigate, the company decided to bring in aircrafts to the remote areas that were particularly difficult to reach.
The entire idea was to first get the relevant permits which took up quite a lot of time too. Because the airport in that area was very small, the incoming routes for other flights were being shared, and the runway was very short, Sarwar had to make sure that the size of the aircraft being used was enough to carry those essentials and small enough to fit in that spot.
NRS International faced several challenges but continued with its mission. It was only because of their commitment and perseverance that they were able to help out thousands of people affected by the ghastly earthquake.
In the words of Farhaj Sarwar, “The staff has worked day and night. They did not even look at the clock for a second. The earthquake that struck on 25th April was absolutely devastating. It was a shocking 7.8 magnitude on the Richter scale. We did not know what to do initially. To be very honest with you, we were equally anxious and riddled with panic because we had not faced a situation like this before. But the one thing that kept us going was our resolve and commitment to humanity no matter where our brothers and sisters are located. We connected with several international aid agencies including both local and international Non-governmental organizations. We had to focus on creating a sort of network that would give us the logistical freedom to reach out to the remote areas that have been impacted heavily by the earthquake. We were fortunate enough to get the support and contribution of many players and among them was the highly trusted Bairo Ling Australia.”

The two organizations worked closely with each other to supply emergency shelters to several monasteries in the country. NRS International also worked day and night to come up with a mini solar lights project to give the people of the area the necessary lighting and other facilities as well.
Because electricity had become an issue overnight, the first thing that needed to be addressed was how to make the shelter and other makeshift houses livable again.
The reason for the massive wave of destruction was the collision of the plate boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The epicenter of the earthquake was 60 km and the depth was only 8 km but it impacted several families all over the area.
It is one of the most catastrophic events of the 21st century. About 9,000 people were killed and several thousand were injured. Several media houses reported 6,00,000 structures in Kathmandu and the neighboring regions being destroyed or damaged in some way or the other after this earthquake took place.
The Amitabha Monastery which was set very high in the mountains in Kathmandu was reported to have been damaged almost to smithereens by the earthquake.
The focus of both organizations was this monastery and also the houses surrounding it where several families with people of practically all ages resided.
The monastery was the permanent home of close to 300 nuns who had traveled from several parts of the region including the Himalayas, Tibet, Sikkim, Bhutan, and Ladakh located in India. NRS International was actively distributing multipurpose tents to all the people in need belonging to this region.
Farhaj Sarwar says, “It was a big responsibility but we knew exactly what we have to do by the time we got used to the topography of the place. We called for more durable all-purpose tents to be delivered as the days progress. Also, we made sure that more than 2,000 family tents and multipurpose shelters, 20,000 tarpaulins, 40,000 water containers, and 10,000 highly durable and comfortable thermal blankets, in addition to 10,000 solar lights were being provided to the people of Nepal in need. We were very fortunate to have received the support, contribution, and encouragement of Bairo Ling Australia. Their expertise, skill sets, and experience helped us a lot in rehabilitating the people of Nepal after the Gorkha earthquake.
Final Thoughts
It is very commendable how the world joined hands and came together to help the peaceful and beautiful country of Nepal and its people. It is times like these when the true nature of humanity surfaces. We all are here to spread love and brotherhood and live in harmony. Situations like these test our resolve and when we succeed and come out with flying colors, this is what makes us all feel proud.
NRS International, the dream venture of Farhaj Sarwar, the exemplary enterprise, and the undisputed leader of philanthropic initiatives has proven once again that it takes only a heart and a bit of empathy to make a world of a difference in this world.
