After winning the Cape Coast Conference tournament and their district tournament, the Palm Bay Pirates are determined to avenge last year’s loss in the regional finals. The No. 1 seeded Pirates will open the FHSAA state tournament hosting the North Marion Colts tonight at 7 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The first round of the Boys 2024-2025 FHSAA playoffs has come to an end.

Around the space coast, we saw some school’s seasons come to an end and one team remains strong.

One of the more impressive stories has been the Viera Hawks (22-4), coming off a district championship the Hawks were looking to make a splash in the state playoffs. In a matchup of the Hawks, it would be the Viera Hawks defeating the Lake Minneola Hawks 68-54.

Viera will move on to the regional semifinals where they will face the number two seeded Edgewater Eagles on Monday, February 17 at 7 p.m.

After falling just short in their district championships the Melbourne Bulldogs and Rockledge Raiders still earned bids to the FHSAA state tournament.

Melbourne ran into an experienced Edgewater team and would be defeated; Rockledge would also fall to a very talented team in North Marion High School.

Astronaut High School’s Cinderella run through districts leading them to the playoffs ended in the first round of the state tournament at the hands of Villages High School.

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

For the girls’ side of the ball, Bayside and Heritage, who just a week ago, met in the district championship, will meet again tonight in the first round of the FHSAA state tournament.

As we highlighted the Viera Hawk boys’ team, the girls are on the road tonight facing the number one seeded Bloomingdale High School.

Looking very strong, the Holy Trinity’s girls (19-6) secured the number one seed in their region and will host Jupiter Christian tonight in the opening round of the FHSAA state tournament.

The Cocoa Tigers have put together a respectable 17-7 season and look to pull off the upset tonight against the number one seed Cardinal Mooney High School.
