A prescribed burn is taking place today, June 25, in the Viera area, west of Interstate 95 and north of Wickham Road.

Prescribed burns are a vital land management tool used to clear excess vegetation, recycle nutrients into the soil, and maintain the natural ecosystem of Florida’s fire-adapted landscapes. By safely managing these burns under controlled conditions, fire officials help protect surrounding communities and preserve the balance of native habitats.

Residents in the area may have noticed smoke during the burn, but all activity was carefully monitored and carried out in accordance with safety guidelines. Officials advised the public to remain cautious when driving in the vicinity due to potential reduced visibility.
