OBITUARY: World War II Vet, Titusville Sherwood Golf Club Member Maurice A. Light Passes Away at 98

Maurice A. Light, affectionately known as Moe or Maurie, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in St. Augustine, Florida, at the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring. He was 98.
Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, on January 26, 1927, Moe proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was a proud veteran of World War II. He was honored and humbled to be recognized in the Honor Flight Network national program with his veteran colleagues in Washington, D.C.
Following his service, Moe built a distinguished career at Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut, where he worked for over 40 years. He was deeply respected for his knowledge, dedication, and unwavering work ethic.
A true gentleman, Moe was known for his honesty, integrity, generosity, and kind heart. He found great joy on the golf course and was a dedicated member of both the Newtown Country Club in Newtown, Connecticut, and the Sherwood Golf Club in Titusville, Florida.
Moe is survived by his son Dan and wife Bev (Keddy), his daughter Judy and husband Ben Rhoads, and their loving families. He is also survived by his cherished companion, Marie Matteson, and her family, who brought joy, love, and companionship into his later years. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Rose Light, and his brothers were Kempton Light and Francis Light.
He especially enjoyed their RV travels around the United States and Canada, creating treasured memories along the way.
A service and burial with military honors will be held on August 21 at 10 a.m. at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
