Pop icon Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce are officially engaged, marking the latest chapter in one of the most high-profile celebrity relationships in recent memory.
Swift revealed the news on Tuesday on Instagram, sharing photos of Kelce down on one knee as she cupped his face during the proposal. She captioned the moment with a playful line: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The engagement comes less than two weeks after Swift announced her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl during an appearance on Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
Swift and Kelce’s romance began privately in the summer of 2023, though the public first spotted Swift at a Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24 of that year. In a later interview with TIME, Swift confirmed the pair had already been dating for some time before her first public appearance in the stands.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift said. “We started hanging out right after that. So, we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”
By the time she attended her first Chiefs game, she explained, “we were already a couple.”
Kelce initially hinted at his interest in Swift on New Heights in July 2023, joking that he missed the chance to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it when her Eras Tour stopped in Kansas City.
Swift later admitted she admired his bold approach: “If this guy’s not crazy, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”
Their relationship blossomed quickly, with Swift appearing at Chiefs games throughout the season and later sharing the stage with Kelce during a stop on her tour.
Both Swift and Kelce have since spoken about how her music influenced their connection. Kelce revealed he used Swift’s lyrics as “a roadmap” for how to win her over. “I was sitting there at the Eras Tour listening to every single one of those songs, being like, ‘I know exactly what she wants me to do,’” he said.
Swift, for her part, has joked that Kelce used his podcast “as a personal dating app,” but added that his persistence left a lasting impression.
“I’m glad it worked,” she said.
