23-Year-Old Oklahoma Man Found Dead After Car Submerges Near Cocoa Beach

A 23-year-old Oklahoma man was found dead Sunday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and became submerged near the Banana River on SR-520, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — A 23-year-old Oklahoma man was found dead Sunday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and became submerged near the Banana River on SR-520, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

Cocoa Beach Police and Fire Rescue units responded to West Cocoa Beach Causeway at approximately 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, after a passerby noticed the rear bumper of a vehicle protruding from the water.

Rescue crews located a deceased occupant in the front driver’s seat. Police identified the victim as a 23-year-old man from Oklahoma. His name was not immediately released.

Investigators said the man was the sole occupant of a gray 2023 Nissan Altima.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and submerged in approximately eight feet of water.

Police said no foul play is suspected at this time.

The vehicle was recovered with assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.
