BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A serious crash shut down northbound Interstate 95 late Sunday morning near the Pineda Causeway, causing major traffic delays and prompting an emergency helicopter response.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11 a.m. when a Ford Taurus traveling northbound in the outside lane veered off the roadway and struck a concrete barrier wall.

The 46-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

A passenger, whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted to the hospital under a trauma alert, troopers said.

Traffic cameras showed that all northbound lanes were closed for more than an hour, with vehicles being rerouted onto the Pineda Causeway. The far-left southbound lane was also blocked to accommodate emergency vehicles during the investigation and helicopter landing.

All lanes are now reopened, though authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
