60-day warning period once each phase becomes active

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Titusville Police Department is launching an automated school zone speed enforcement program and beginning a public information campaign to educate residents ahead of its implementation.

The department announced the program will roll out in three phases, with installation and activation occurring at different times.

Phase 1 is scheduled to go live on Feb. 25, 2026.

Go-live dates for Phase 2 and Phase 3 have not yet been determined.

Under the program, drivers who exceed the posted school zone speed limit by 11 miles per hour or more will receive a notice of violation.

However, officials emphasized there will be a 60-day warning period once each phase becomes active.

During that time, violators will receive warnings instead of citations. After the 60-day period ends, violations will result in formal citations.

The automated enforcement system will operate within 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the start of a regularly scheduled school session, as well as throughout the entire school day.

Police officials say the initiative is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to improve safety for students, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Titusville Police Department said it has consistently taken proactive steps — both through in-person enforcement and technological measures — to enhance safety in school zones.

Traffic, roadway, pedestrian and bicycle safety remain among the department’s top priorities, officials said.

Leaders expressed strong support for the automated program, stating its primary goal is to slow traffic and protect children as they travel to and from school and throughout the school day.
