TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — A major east-west transportation corridor across Florida will soon carry a new name after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation designating State Road 80 as the “President Donald J. Trump Highway.”
The change is included in Senate Bill 628, which was approved by the Florida Legislature and takes effect on July 1, 2026.
Under the new law, the “President Donald J. Trump Highway” designation will apply to the entire length of State Road 80, a roadway stretching approximately 124 miles from West Palm Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast to Fort Myers on the Gulf Coast.
The highway serves as a critical transportation route across South Florida, connecting urban, suburban, and rural communities while providing a direct link between the state’s east and west coasts.
Thousands of motorists use the corridor each day for commuting, commerce, and travel.
The designation marks the second major Florida transportation facility to be named in honor of President Donald J. Trump this year.
Earlier in 2026, state lawmakers approved legislation renaming Palm Beach International Airport as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Transportation officials are expected to install new roadway signage along State Road 80 following the law’s July 1 effective date.
The honorary designation does not alter the highway’s official numerical designation, which will continue to be known as State Road 80 for navigation and transportation purposes.
The new signs identifying the President Donald J. Trump Highway are expected to begin appearing along the route after the law officially takes effect.
