“Whether you’re from Florida or Alaska, if you come to Brevard County and break the law—or, in this case, have a warrant—you better believe that we will lock you up,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA — Several cruise passengers expecting to begin or end vacations at Port Canaveral instead found themselves in handcuffs after Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested multiple people on outstanding warrants and probation-related violations.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, deputies made several arrests during enforcement operations at the port.

Among those arrested were Martell Murray, of Georgia, who was wanted for violating the conditions of his release on pending murder charges, and Kenderia Burney, of Leon County, Florida, who was wanted on a violation of probation warrant.

Both were taken into custody after arriving together at the port.

Kenderia Burney, of Leon County, Florida, was wanted on a probation violation warrant.

Deputies also arrested Veronica Hamlet, of Tampa, on a failure-to-appear warrant, and James Brewton, of South Carolina, on a violation-of-probation warrant.

Two cruise passengers disembarking at Port Canaveral were stopped after deputies determined they were currently on felony probation and had traveled outside the country without the required approval from their probation officers.

The sheriff’s office said those individuals will remain in custody while their respective probation officers complete the necessary paperwork.

Veronica Hamlet, of Tampa, was wanted on a failure-to-appear warrant.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the arrests serve as a reminder that law enforcement officers actively monitor travelers passing through Port Canaveral.

“Whether you’re from Florida or Alaska, if you come to Brevard County and break the law—or in this case have a warrant—you better believe that we will lock you up,” Ivey said.
