A district spokesperson said Florida Power & Light notified school officials Sunday night that service could not be restored in time for Monday morning classes, requiring the district to close the school for the day.
FPL crews are at the school working to restore electricity, but a timeline for completing the repairs was not immediately announced.
“FPL is responding to a power outage affecting Astronaut High School in Titusville,” the utility company said in a statement. “Our crews are on site and working to restore service safely and as quickly as possible. We are coordinating closely with school officials.”
“We apologize for the inconvenience this interruption has caused and appreciate the patience of the school community as our crews complete this work. The cause of the outage is under investigation.”
Astronaut High School announced on Facebook that dual-enrollment students are still expected to attend their scheduled classes at Eastern Florida State College.
The school is expected to reopen and resume normal operations Tuesday, Sept. 1.
