Monsanto is taking heat from environmental groups and consumer-based organic rights organizations for its practices involving creation and distribution of genetically modified organisms – foods whose DNA structure has been changed in the lab.

The St. Louis-based giant claims its gmo foods fend off insects and increase farmers’ yields – those opposed say there is strong scientific research to prove there are health risks that go with consumption of gmo foods.

The Melbourne protest was one of many around the world taking place today.
