Brevard Favorite Son Mike Haridopolos Considers Run For Florida State Senate Seat

Space Coast Daily has learned Brevard County Favorite Son, and former Florida Senate President, Mike Haridopolos will possibly run for the Florida Senate District 16 seat now held by Thad Altman, who is terming out.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Space Coast Daily has learned Brevard County Favorite Son, and former Florida Senate President, Mike Haridopolos will possibly run for the Florida Senate District 16 seat now held by Thad Altman, who is terming out.

“I am considering entering the race and will make my decision before the end of the month,” said Haridopolos, a former Republican member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 26 from 2003 to 2012.

Haridopolos served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2003.

If Haridopolos decides to run, his opponents thus far will be Florida State Rep. Ritch Workman, Florida State Rep. Debbie Mayfield of Vero Beach and Michael Thomas of Melbourne.

Altman has filed to run for the Florida House seat now held by Workman, who also cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

District 16 is comprised of areas in Brevard and Indian River counties including Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island, Cocoa,Rockledge, Palm Shores, Suntree, Melbourne, Melbourne Village, West Melbourne, Viera, Palm Bay, Sebastian, Fellsmere and Orchid.

Haridopolos has three children – Reagan, Hayden and Alexis – and is the husband of Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos.

Throughout his legislative career, Haridopolos has championed issues related to the space program and NASA, instituting transparency and accountability in state government and identifying ways to correct and prevent the wrongful incarceration of Floridians.
