BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police detectives and patrol officers are currently investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martine, shortly after 8 p.m. officers responded to the area of Blake Avenue for reports of a shooting. A 20-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound and is being treated at the hospital.

“According to witnesses, the shooting occurred outside a home on Wilson Avenue and the suspect or suspects fled on foot toward Blake Avenue,” said Martinez.

Activities at the Emma Jewel Charter Academy on Blake Avenue were placed in lock down while officers secured the area. No other injuries were reported.
