BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Darcia Jones Francey, a lifelong Brevard County resident whose tireless philanthropy and civic leadership helped shape the region’s nonprofit landscape, died Wednesday, April 1, at 73.
Widely admired for her generosity, energy, and unwavering commitment to others, Jones Francey devoted decades of her life to strengthening the Space Coast community she loved.
From health care and the arts to mental health services and affordable housing, her influence reached across nearly every corner of Brevard’s charitable sector.
Born and raised in Eau Gallie, Jones Francey graduated from Melbourne Central Catholic High School before briefly leaving the area to attend Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.

Though her time away was short, her ties to Brevard were enduring. She returned home to marry her high school sweetheart, John Francey. The couple shared nearly five decades of marriage, building a life grounded in family, friendship, and service.
Jones Francey became one of Brevard County’s most respected and effective advocates for nonprofit organizations, serving on numerous boards of directors and playing a central role in organizing fundraising efforts that generated millions of dollars for community causes.
Her work was characterized not only by dedication but also by an ability to inspire others to give, volunteer, and engage.
Her philanthropic reach was extensive. Among the many organizations she supported were the Health First Foundation, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, the King Center for the Performing Arts, Circles of Care, Friends of Sally’s House, and Space Coast Habitat for Humanity.

Through her leadership and advocacy, these organizations expanded their reach and deepened their impact across the community.
“Darcia was a remarkable advocate for Health First’s mission to improve the health and wellness of our community,” said Michael Seeley, president of the Health First Foundation.
“Her leadership and generosity helped bring world-class cardiac care to Brevard County. Her legacy will live on in the lives touched by that care, and we are profoundly grateful for her lasting impact.”
Beyond her many accomplishments, friends and colleagues remember Jones Francey as someone who led with heart — a connector of people, a champion of causes, and a steadfast believer in the power of community. Her legacy is etched not only in the institutions she helped strengthen but in the countless lives improved through her quiet acts of generosity.
She is survived by her husband, John Francey, along with a wide circle of family members, friends, and community leaders who will continue to carry forward her spirit of service.
Darcia Jones Francey’s life stands as a testament to the profound difference one person can make. In Brevard County, her impact will be felt for generations to come.

Jones-Francey Was an Indefatigable Supporter for Countless Good Causes
Since she was in her 20s and the late Doc Strawbridge recruited her to energize the Community Foundation, Jones-Francey has been an indefatigable supporter for countless good causes, raising millions of dollars for them along the way.
Volunteering was not just a vocation but a ministry for this Eau Gallie native, who is supremely proud of the Space Coast and its people.
Got some time? You’ll need it to go down the list of organizations Jones-Francey has helped:
In alphabetical order, there is ArtWorks, Brevard Community College Foundation, Brevard Humane Society, Brevard Regional Arts Group, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Cancer Care Center, Circles of Care, Cocoa Village Playhouse, Community Foundation of Brevard, Florida Tech, Health First Foundation, the King Center, Melbourne Central Catholic High School, Melbourne Civic Theatre, Prevent! of Brevard, Project Hunger, Sally’s House, U.S. Space Walk of Fame and the Women’s Center.
She worked closely with Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey in the Dancing for the Space Coast event.
“I think I’ve worked in just about every organization here,” said Jones-Francey.
While she was always a “most wanted” person for any board of directors, her reach also went well beyond the boardroom. When she stood behind a cause, she supported it with body, soul, and pocketbook.
