BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office GAMEOVER Task Force arrested 41-year-old Levetirus Leon Cole on Sunday afternoon in Melbourne.

The arrest of Cole was in connection with a shooting on Saturday at approximately 11:45 a.m.

The incident began when the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Brophy Boulevard in unincorporated Cocoa, in response to a shooting.

According to Corporal Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival to the call, Deputies discovered 39-year-old Derick Luke of Cocoa critically wounded. Luke was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It was determined this was an isolated incident related to a disturbance that occurred at a separate location previous to the shooting,” said Cpl. Jacobs.

The investigation revealed that Cole, of Cocoa, drove a vehicle also occupied by Luke, to a residence on Brophy Boulevard following the disturbance.

“Cole allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened a group of people outside of a residence,” said Cpl Jacobs.

Xavier Thomas, 24, of Cocoa, then fired at Cole, striking Luke. Cole then fled the scene prior to the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies.

An arrest warrant was then obtained for Cole for Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Using a Firearm While Engaged in Criminal Activity.
