SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Space Coast Daily’s Zach Clark and Graham McGowan called the play-by-play of Rockledge’s big win over Palm Bay in week 8 of the high school football season.
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – It was a dominating performance Friday night as the Rockledge Raiders (2-3) handed Palm Bay (4-2-1) their second loss of the season 42-6 at Florida Tech Panther Stadium.
The Raiders made quick work to begin the game when Jashaun Corbin took a snap early in the first quarter 74-yards for a touchdown.
Rockledge never looked back.
After a 3-and-out by the Rockledge defense on the ensuing possession , Rockledge junior running back Jalen Mitchell took a nice 21- yard run to the house to give the Raiders a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Rockledge defense flashed their speed all night and swarmed to the ball, causing fits for a Palm Bay offense that struggled to move the ball effectively all night on a rainy evening in Palm Bay.
Corbin, a Florida State commit, connected on a beautiful 29-yard pass to another fellow Florida State commit, teammate and wide receiver Antoine Green.
Corbin, listed as a RB/WR on the roster, showed off his athleticism all night and why he is the 6th overall rated all-purpose back in the nation, according to Rivals.
Following Rockledge’s touchdown run by Ladarius Tennison (2nd qtr.) and touchdown reception by Ian Edwards (3rd qtr.), Palm Bay broke the scoreless drought towards the end of the third quarter when running back Cordae Lewis broke loose for 70-yard touchdown run to make it 35-6 at the end of the third quarter.
However, Corbin wasn’t finished when the speedster flashed his speed towards the outside on a run play for 54-yards and the final score of the game 42-6.
Despite a slow start to the season, the schedule for Rockledge has been nothing less than challenging after their combined opponents record was 21-4 before Friday night’s contests.
Rockledge head coach Wayne Younger spoke about his team’s win Friday night and the difficult schedule his squad has faced to start off the year.
“We have played some state contender teams in the beginning of the year and I think we are battle tested,” said the third-year head coach.
“Yeah, we came out on the wrong end of those games but it got us ready. Palm Bay is really physical team and they will give it their all. We have been executing in the previous weeks and it showed today.”
“Our offensive line and our coaches have done a great job these past couple of weeks and we are starting to get into a rhythm up front with our five guys,” Younger added.
The Raiders head to Merritt Island to take on the Mustangs (4-2) next week, while the Palm Bay Pirates will host Space Coast (3-3) next week (10/20) for the last scheduled home game for the Pirates in the regular season as they finish up the regular season at Treasure Coast on November 3.
