GENEROUS: Mike Shah, Summit Shah and Rashmi Shah of Southeast Petro Distributors present United Way of Brevard President, Rob Rains, a check on behalf of British Petroleum.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Mike Shah, Summit Shah and Rashmi Shah of Southeast Petro Distributors presented United Way of Brevard President, Rob Rains, with a $20,000 check on behalf of British Petroleum (BP) to help United Way reach its $7 M campaign goal.

“United Way appreciates the Shah’s generosity and is grateful they have selected us as their community partner,” said Rains.

United Way of Brevard County was started in 1957 by a group of concerned individuals who wanted to help those who were in need. They formed the Brevard County United Appeal and conducted their first county-wide fund drive in early spring of 1958. Over $104,000 was raised, and 12 agencies received funding that first year. Another campaign was conducted in the fall, raising $140,600 for the 1959 operating budgets of the 12 agencies.

In 1962, the organization’s name was changed to the United Fund of Brevard County and in 1971 to the United Way of Brevard County.
