TAMPA, Fla. — Andy Pettitte thought “it was going to be a lot more awkward.” What he felt instead, in his first official day back with the Yankees, was “like I never left.”
He looked that way, too — in his familiar No. 46 and in his first bullpen session since returning from his one-year retirement.
Pettitte, 39, had a physical Tuesday morning, then threw approximately 50 pitches, most of them to catcher Russell Martin. Afterward, Martin proclaimed the session “as good of a bullpen as I’ve caught all spring — from anyone.”
