Panthers Remain In Hunt For Regional Golf Title

CONOVER, N.C. –  Florida Tech will enter the last day of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional today only one shot behind tournament

leader Georgia College & State following a five-over-par 295 Tuesday at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover.

The Panthers entered the day as the leader, but the Bobcats shot a one-over 289 to vault from fourth to first place.

Florida Tech is in second with a combined total of 581.

UNC Pembroke, Barry and South Carolina-Aiken are tied for third, three strokes behind the Panthers.

Christian Westhorpe of Florida Tech is tied for eighth at two-under (70-72), while teammate Patrick Sheedy is tied for 27th at three-over (72-75).

Colin Flabbi of the Panthers is tied for 35th at four-over (73-75).

Among other Florida tech players competing, Brandon Lau shaved four strokes off his first-round total (150) in the second round and Ray Badenhorst rounds out the team with a score of 154 (71-83).

Eckerd’s Jeff Evanier leads the field of 108 players at six-under (70-68).

South Carolina-Aiken’s Matt Atkins and Georgia Southwestern State’s J.P. Griffin are tied for second at four-under (140).

The third and final round is scheduled for Wednesday.

The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships next week at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
