Manatees’ Nelson Earns FSL All-Star Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Brevard Manatees starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson has been selected to appear in the 2012 Florida State League All-Star Game in Port Charlotte on June 16.

Nelson, a right-hander, will be a member of the North Division All-Stars in the annual matchup of the finest talent competing in the league.

He currently is second in the league in both earned run average (2.08) and strikeouts (67). His 69.1 innings pitched are the most in the league this season and he is fourth overall with a 1.05 WHIP.

The Niceville, Fla. native has a record of 4-4 in 11 starts so far this season.

He has pitched his best at Space Coast Stadium, with a 2-1 record and a 1.21 ERA at home this year.

Of the eleven starts that Nelson has made, he has struck out at least six batters in seven of them and has had seven quality starts.

He also currently ranks fifth in the FSL with opposing batters hitting just .222 batting against him and he is second in the league with a 2.19 ground ball/fly ball ratio.

Nelson was chosen selected by the Brewers in the second round (64th overall pick) of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama.
