Prescribed Fire Set For Wickham Park Today

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Division of Forestry, assisted by the Brevard Environmentally Endangered Lands program, is planning a prescribed fire from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today the northeast portion of Wickham Park.
If the weather permits, the fire will be in an area of the park bordered by Croton and Post roads.
The burns will be daytime burns only and will be managed by the Florida Division of Forestry.
Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals.
Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.
