District 2 Majors Baseball Tourney Begins

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – Beautiful weather has led to some great Little League All-Stars baseball this past week and plenty more is in store for fans.

On Friday night in District 22, the 9/10 All-Stars baseball division at Holder Park in Mims featured a matchup between Indian River City and Rockeledge.

Indian River City won 11-1 in 4 innings behind 2 doubles by Brayden Chamberlain and a triple by Jason Woodward. As a result of Indian River City’s win, Merritt Island Little League clinched numerically as the 9/10 District 22 baseball champions.

Merritt Island advances to the Section 3 Tournament in Debary on July 14.

In the District 22 Majors baseball tournament at W.W. James Park in Titusville, Port St. John and Indian River City played a hard-fought game.

Indan River City began with a five-run 2nd inning that included a Grand Slam home run by Ty Jones.  He also added an RBI-double later in the game, but Port St. John’s four-run surge in the 6th inning put them on top for good in a 13-10 win.

Today’s game between Merritt Island and Rockledge will determine the championship in the Majors divison.

In a Junior baseball All-stars game at Holder Park on Friday,  Mims defeated Indian River City LL 15-1 in 5 innings.

Tristen Tindall had a double for Mims and Matt Affeld pitched the entire game for the win.

Port St. John and Rockledge will play today to determine the District 22 Junior baseball championship and a berth in the Section 3 tournament in St. Augustine on July 21.

District 2

Two championship games were played Friday night in District 2 in the 9/10 baseball and 10/11 baseball All-Stars divisions at Rodes Park in West Melbourne.

In the 9/10 baseball finale, Viera/Suntree Gold claimed the District 2 championship with a 14-8 win over Eau Gallie Blue.

Viera/Suntree Gold advances to the 9/10 baseball Section 2 Tournament on July 14 in Port St. Lucie.

In the 10/11 baseball finale, Viera/Suntree topped Beachside 6-1 to win the District 2 title.

The District 2 Majors baseball and Juniors baseball Tournaments open today at Viera Regional Park.
