Elderly Victims In Critical Condtion

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A serious crash between a dump truck and a passenger vehicle sent two elderly residents to the hospital this morning in Melbourne.

Melbourne Police Sgt. Marty Miller said emergency crews responded to a crash about 10:21 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and Guava Avenue.

“Witness accounts state the passenger vehicle was attempting to travel southbound on Guava Avenue and cross the two westbound lanes of Eau Gallie Boulevard when it was struck broadside by the dump truck,” Miller said.

The passenger vehicle was driven by an 80-year-old man who was transporting an 80-year-old woman.

Miller said both occupants of the passenger vehicle were taken to Holmes Regional Trauma Center in Melbourne and are reported to be in critical, but stable, condition.

The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.

Miller said at this point in the investigation, it appears the passenger vehicle violated the right-of-way of the dump truck, but police are continuing to investigate the accident.
