Florida Tech Track Team Dashes To Academic Honor

First Honor For Program

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech has been named a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II All-Academic Womens’ Team for recording a 3.51 cumulative team grade point average.

The award is the program’s first such honor in its brief two-year history.

The Panthers’ 3.51 GPA tied for the ninth-highest among 83 teams.

To be eligible for the honor, a team must meet or surpass a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The Florida Tech womens’ track & field teams is coached by Pete Mazzone. Nick Dodson serves as assistant coach.

The program was created in 2011 and became just the fourth institution in the Sunshine State Conference to sponsor the sport, joining Florida Southern College, Nova Southeastern University and the University of Tampa.

The 2012 Florida Tech womens’ track & field squad included Stephanie Fonseca, Nicole Clarke, Kelsey Clayton, Brittany Reinard, Dorian Magee, Renee Morgan, Audryanna Fernandez, Brianna Fugere, Kandice Lord, Jessica Richardson and Tomena Scholze.

Over one month ago, Clarke was chosen USTFCCCA All-South Region for one of her events, the 5,000-meter run.

She ended her Panther career with a third-place finish in the women’s 3,000-meter run, clocking in at 10:39.36 at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
