The topic of the forum will be: “Does the Trayvon Martin case prove Florida needs to repeal the Stand Your Ground law?”

The controversial Stand Your Ground law was authored by members of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

The Space Coast Progressive Alliance believes that conservative corporate support organizations also helped pass similar laws in 23 states by funneling support from corporate interests to state legislatures.

The forum panel will include John Alvarez (Democratic candidate for Florida State Representative District 53); Ryan Vescio (Democratic candidate for State Attorney of the 18th Judicial Circuit in Brevard and Seminole Counties); Adrian Moss-Beasley (Brevard County Deputy Sheriff and the Democratic candidate for Brevard Sheriff); Leonard Dean Ross (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition Of Melbourne) and Robert Johnson (President South Brevard NAACP).

The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Danielle McMullen, OFA organizer, also will be on hand to register voters and update voter identification.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Henegar Center is at 625 E. New Haven Avenue in Melbourne.
