UPDATE: Hurst Tied For Third at U.S. Women’s Open

After shooting a second round 2 under on yesterday,  Vicky Hurst will move into the weekend at the 67th U.S. Womens Open at Blackwolf Run just 2 shots off the leader, Suzann Petterson.

Yesterday, Hurst with an Eagle on the second hole, followed up with a birdie on the third, was off to a great start.  With her driving average of 275, and hitting 14 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens, Hurst positioned herself just 2 shots out of the lead by days end.

The last five winners of the U.S. Woman’s Open have been first-time major winners.  Who is playing well and motivated to capture this weeks open?

Hurst will tee it up at today 12:10 today, paired with Inbee Park.

The USGA Women’s Open, one of the LPGA Tour’s four major championships, is certainly a competition featuring diversity and the shared passion of women professional players from across the globe.

The 67th annual tourney got under way this morning from the Blackwolf Run, a champion course in Kohler, Wisconsin. This is the second USGA Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run. Se Ri Pak won in 1998.

It only seems fitting that the tournament falls at the half-way point of the LPGA 2012 season.  Thus far this season, Melbourne’s Vicky Hurst has managed to bank $222, 870, placing her 30th on the LPGA official money list.  Vicky also ranks third in driving distance, averaging 275 yards, and is tied with Korea’s Se Ri Pak at 35th in the Rolex Player of the Year rankings.

Today, Hurst recorded a 1-under par 71 and a Top Ten spot on the Leaderboard after the first round.
