‘Surf Your Heart’ Out For Rob Munchbach
By Mary Beth Phelps // July 17, 2012
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Join friends of local surfer Rob Munchbach for the “Surf Your Heart Out” fundraising event.
This event for Munchbach is to help raise the $100,000 (not covered by Medicare) needed to begin the process of a much-needed heart transplant, and to help with the costs of life-long anti-rejection medication.
Munchbach is a 42-year old father, merchant marine, surfer and rugby player who was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004.
Incredibly, this was followed by rectal cancer that he beat, then in 2008, he received a pacemaker to govern his miss-firing pump. Now, the pacemaker can no longer help his dysfunctional heart, and a transplant is vital.
The 2-mile fun run/walk will be held at Lori Wilson Park August 25. Registration is at 7:15 a.m. with the event beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $25 (day of the event) or $20 for registrations (postmarked August 15).
Following the run/walk, participants are invited to take to the surf for some additional fun. Registration includes refreshments, a t-shirt, prizes awarded by age groups and participation ribbons for children.
Along with event registrations, event sponsors are needed. For a $200 sponsorship, your name or logo will be printed on the event t-shirts, flyers, signage at the event, and on Munchbach’s website.
Other events, including paddle boarding, rugby and golf, will take place in the Fall of 2012.
For those who aren’t able to participate in the events, but want to help Captain Rob get a new heart, a Heart Transplant Fund has been set up at Chase Bank. Donations can be made at any of their banks, to Account #303313823.
Have a heart…help Captain Rob get a new heart and a new lease on life.
