Rockledge, South Beaches Begin Title Quest

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Two teams, two Little League World Series tournaments, two destinies.

That’s what waits for several Little League All-Star teams from Brevard County as they begin a journey today on a quest to bring home a world championship.

After powering to District 2, Section 2 and Southeastern Regional titles, the combined All-Star team of South Beaches Little League and West Melbourne Little League has arrived in Bangor Maine to compete in the Senior League Baseball World Series.

Playing for South Beaches/West Melbourne are Austin Alsept, Carson Jackson, Gabriel Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez, Tyler Brennan, Cooper Christiano, River Horning, Joe Minkwitz, Reid Poltun, Chris Phillips, Kyle Stark, Taylor Yates, Jake Walsh, Matt Doran, Tyler Phillips and P.J. Robinson.

John Phillips is the South Beaches/West Melbourne manager. John Christiano and Mike Alsept serve as team coaches.

After enjoying the fireworks and pageantry of the World Series opening ceremonies Saturday night, South Beaches/West Melbourne will be tested right out of the gate at 2:30 p.m. today in an opening round pool play game at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor against U.S. West Regional champion Lemon Grove, Calif.

Also competing in the South Beaches/West Melbourne pool are Bayside-Westhaven, New Zealand, Emilia, Italy, Lemon Grove, Calif. and West University, Texas.

After taking Monday off, South Beaches/West Melbourne returns to pool play at 8 p.m. Tuesday facing Southwestern Regional champion West University, Texas.

Junior Division

Southeastern Regional champion Rockledge is in Taylor, Mich. to open play in the Junior League Baseball World Series.

The team flew to Michigan on Friday and opens World Series competition with a 5:30 p.m. game today.

Rockledge will take the field this afternoon at Heritage Park in Michigan against Southwestern Regional champion Oil Belt, Texas.

Playing for the Rockledge All-Stars are Drew Parrish; Kevin Clanton; Mason Studstill; Mike Hall; Gavin Spinneweber; Trevor Payne; Kasim Nabhan; Blake Beyel; Justin Robedeau; Brady Martello; and Jackson Parker.

Rockledge is managed by David Clanton. Team coaches are Robbie Robedeau, Tom Hall, Shane Parker and Dino Martello.

Also competing in Rockledge’s World Series pool are Franklin Square, N.Y., Oil Belt, Texas, North Canton, Ohio and Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Rockledge’s second pool play game will be played at 11 a.m. Monday against North Canton, Ohio.
