FIT Drops SSC Opener to Eckerd, 3-0

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – Florida Tech (8-3, 0-1) fell in straight sets to Eckerd (7-4, 1-0) Friday night in its Sunshine State Conference opener at the McArthur Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17.

Three Panthers – Kaitlin Brennan, Kim Juriga and Janice Valies – led the Panthers with eight kills each. Alexis Mastela tossed up 31 of the team’s 35 assists and Angie Lassmanhad 20 digs.

In the first set, FIT scored seven straight points to take a 14-7 lead over the Tritons. Eckerd, however, battled back and Katarina Milojevic’s kill broke a 16-all score. From that point, the home team did not look back.

The Tritons never allowed the Panthers to take a lead in the second and third sets.

FIT will now return to Melbourne to host No. 7 Tampa Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Clemente Center.
