BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a developing area of low pressure expected to form off the southeastern coast of the United States next week.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest Tropical Weather Outlook issued Saturday afternoon, the system has a 20% chance of tropical cyclone formation over the next seven days.
Forecasters say there is nearly a 0% chance of development during the next 48 hours.
The disturbance is expected to develop offshore of the Southeast following the western end of a frontal system early next week. The National Hurricane Center said any development is expected to be slow as the system gradually moves westward.
At this time, there are no active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic basin, and the disturbance remains in the early stages of formation.
While it is too early to determine whether the system will develop further or have any impacts on land, residents along the Southeast coast, including Florida, are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Hurricane Center as the Atlantic hurricane season continues.
Forecasters will continue tracking the system and provide additional updates if the chances of development increase in the coming days.
