Prescribed Burn Today At Fay Lake Wilderness Park

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN,  FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue has announced a prescribed three-acre burn today within the Fay Lake Wilderness Park.

Lt. Jeff Taylor of Brevard County Fire Rescue said the fire is planned between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting.

The Florida Forest Service will assist Brevard crews in conducting the prescribed burn.

Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals,” Taylor said. “Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.”

Fay Lake Wilderness Park is at 6300 Fay Boulevard in Port St. John.
