According to Cocoa Police Department Public Information  Officer Barbara Matthews, the shooting took place about noon at the Longwood Apartments at 1524 Clearlake Road.

Matthews said that Lydia Bradford, 24, a  mother of three, was planning for her daughter’s birthday party when an unknown assailant burst into her residence and shot her in the head.

She died at the scene.

Bradford’s mother, Equaller Marie Bradford, 58, was shot by the attacker in the head, face and three times in the chest.

She was airlifted to a nearby trauma center and is still undergoing treatment for her gunshot wounds.

A ground search by police and an aerial search of the area by a helicopter from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit failed to find the shooter.

Three children inside the residence where the shooting took place were not injured and fled to a neighboring apartment following the shooting, Matthews said.

An autopsy was performed on deceased victim Tuesday and investigators spent the day interviewing witnesses and following up on leads that have come in about the shooting through CRIMELINE.

Matthews said anyone with information is asked to call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) and calls may be anonymous and eligible for a cash reward.
