Carroll resigned Tuesday after being interviewed by Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents interviewed about her involvement with Allied Veterans of the World internet cafe.

She represented the firm which is under investigation for an internet gambling scandal and operates at locations throughout the state, including five on the Space Coast.

Gov. Scott is expected to conduct a press conference in Tallahassee on Wednesday afternoon to address  the situation.

Carroll was the first female elected as lieutenant governor in Florida and the first African-American elected to a statewide post.

She was a state legislator for more than seven years, a small business owner, former Executive Director of Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Carroll’s work as Chair of Space Florida headquartered in Brevard County was instrumental in creating thousands of new private sector, space and aerospace related jobs.

During her first year in office the Florida received a 10-year contract to manage the International Space Station National Laboratory, bringing in $15 million per year to the state for life science research and development.

Florida Democrats Release Statement

“Floridians expected an administration focused on solving the problems facing Florida’s families, but instead got a scandal plagued Governor and a revolving staff door,” said Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Allison Tant in a prepared statement.

“Rick Scott and his administration have made a mockery of the Governor’s office — embarrassing Floridians while failing to accomplish his legislative priorities” she wrote. “Scott campaigned on changing Tallahassee but his first three years have been more of the same corruption and waste that taxpayers have come to expect from Florida Republicans.”

  1. We can only pray that gov medicrook himself is the next to fall. Maybe this is like when Agnew was booted before Nixon so that they wouldn’t be replacing one crook with another. We can only hope so. Either way this good news is only a start to getting rid of the cesspool of corruption that is GOP politics here in Florida.
