PNC Brings the Zoo to You! Workshop Set For May 11

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The next “PNC Brings the Zoo to You!” community workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the West Sebastian PNC Bank branch located on 993 Sebastian Blvd. in Sebastian.

To commemorate Brevard Zoo’s 20th anniversary in March 2014, the Zoo will open a new major exhibit featuring meerkats. PNC Bank, a division of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., has kicked off the fundraising for the exhibit with a $162,500 gift. The remaining funds to cover the cost of the exhibit will be raised through corporate and private donations, according to Zoo officials.

At this workshop, Brevard Zoo staff will introduce children to African animals found in the same habitat as meerkats – a Ball Python, a Sand Boa, a Pancake Tortoise and a Sudan Plated Lizard.

There will also be meerkat puppets kids can make, along with music, food and games provided by PNC Bank. Kids who make a meerkat puppet at the event should keep them so they can bring them to Brevard Zoo the day the meerkat exhibit opens in March 2014 to receive free admission that day.

The campaign to bring meerkats to Brevard Zoo was launched in February with a gift of $162,500 by PNC Bank. The remaining funds to cover the cost of the exhibit are being raised through corporate and private donations.

COCOA BEACH WORKSHOP SET FOR JUNE 8

As part of the campaign, PNC Bank is hosting Saturday morning workshops entitled PNC Brings the Zoo to You! at local bank branches to serve as a preview to the exhibit and introduce children to small African animals.

PNCBank_Rc2_RGBThese periodic morning workshops provide families with an opportunity to create meerkat puppets, learn more about amazing African animals and establish a relationship with wildlife and nature. The next workshop is planned for Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach PNC Bank Branch located at 4350 N. Atlantic Ave.
