Passing Motorist Tips Off FHP
BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An alert motorist helped Titusville police find an elderly man who was missing and the object of a Silver Alert.

Sgt. Thomas House of the Titusville Police Department said John H. Jones, disappeared Tuesday after taking off for Miami early Monday morning.
House said a motorist who had learned of the from information signs posted along the interstate spotted Jones’s vehicle on the Florida Turnpike near the Canoe Creek Service Plaza at mile marker 229.
The motorist called The Florida Highway Patrol and they were able to locate Jones, stop him and make arrangements for his family to respond to assist him home.
House said Jones, 86, was driving a green 2001 Mazda MVP minivan and spent Monday night in Vero Beach at the Knights Inn.
According to the family of Jones, he may be suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Jones never arrived in Miami, but did contact his family and said he was experiencing car problems and was returning to Titusville.
When he did not arrived back, police initiated a search, House said.
Jones is 5-foot-7 and weighs 160 pounds with grey hair and brown eyes.
It is unknown what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.
Motel staff told investigators that Jones checked out at noon Tuesday, but left his cell phone behind in his room when he departed.
