BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – A drowning death has been reported off the beaches of Cape Canaveral after rescue crews scoured the area in response to a report from a bystander who said a swimmer was in distress, according to Brevard County Fire-Rescue.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that after locating the man off of Pierce Ave. in Cape Canaveral, first responders attempted CPR before he was pronounced dead.
Rescue crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, Brevard County and civilian Good Samaritains searched for the man for more than an hour before locating him.
“For what seemed like hours many onlookers were helping rescue personel locate the missing person,” said an eye witness.
“Then I saw a few people shouting and pointing towards the water. First responders pulled the man out of the water and attempted CPR. I’m not sure at this point what exactly happened in the water. The surf was not rough or big, and the current did not appear to be strong,” said the eye witness.
“It was a very sobering experience seeing something like this actually happen.”
