Dodson recently completed the program at California State University, East Bay. During the weeklong course, he passed five tests to receive his certification.

“It was an honor to be selected to go out to California to meet so many different coaches across the country and gain more knowledge in my field,” Dodson said.

“I learned so much over the week and had some fantastic instructors. Charles Clinton and Loren Seagrave are about as good as it gets when it comes to elite training. I plan to use the knowledge I gained along with what I already knew to continue to build our program and help our student-athletes become the best they can be.”

Dodson had previously completed the Level 1 program, which is a two-and-a-half-day course that covers event related and sports science subjects and requires coaches to pass an online exam.

“It was an honor to be selected to go out to California to meet so many different coaches across the country and gain more knowledge in my field,” Dodson said.

The purpose of the USATF Coaching Education Level 2 program is to allow coaches to receive extensive training in a specific event group in addition to improving their sports science and training knowledge.

Coaches learn more about the technical aspects of their events through video analysis, group projects, classes and hands-on instruction. They also create their own training program as part of the course.

To apply for the program, coaches must be a member of USATF, have passed the Level 1 program and have at least three years of track & field or cross country coaching experience.

After reaching a minimum of 10 years of coaching experience, coaches can complete the highest level of USATF certification, Level 3.
