EFSC Volleyball Ready For Final Three Matches

Sophomores to Be Honored on Tuesday
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eastern Florida State College’s volleyball team plays its final three matches of the season over the next week with the highlight being Sophomore Night against Polk State College at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Melbourne Campus gym.
Admission is free.
The Polk match follows Saturday’s noon visit to the Webber International junior varsity in Babson Park and precedes the season finale at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach.
Eastern Florida has split with Webber this season, falling in five sets on Sept. 7 and winning in three sets on Oct. 4. Eastern Florida lost to Polk in four sets on Aug. 29. It beat Daytona in five sets on Aug. 5 but lost in three sets on Sept. 3.
EASTERN FLORIDA IS 12-21 ON THE SEASON
The Titans will recognize seven sophomores on Tuesday: libero and defensive specialist Brittany Collison of Lake Placid, FL; middle hitter Ashley Dills of Winter Haven, FL; setter Taylor Gembecki of Fort Myers, FL; outside hitter Ashley Gonzalez of Warner Robbins, GA; outside hitter, libero and defensive specialist Alana Nielander of Lake Placid, FL; outside hitter and middle Micaela Vowkinel of Carson City, NV; and libero and defensive specialist Sara Watkins of Chuluota, FL.
Based on statistics from 32 matches Gembecki ranks 50th nationally in assists with 593 and leads the team in service aces with 35. Nielander leads the team in digs with 201.
The sophomores’ pending departure has struck a chord with head coach Herb Tokumoto.

“How did it get so late so soon?” Tokumoto said. “Time is so fleeting never enough for everything to be taught. It’s choices not chances that determines your destiny.
“In terms of character, each sophomore has things to be proud of: Being leaders both on and off the court, their academic successes and helping not only each other, but the incoming freshmen during this transitional time in life.”
