Watch Merritt Island take on Cypress Bay from the O-Dome
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Space Coast Daily will be live on Facebook and YouTube from the O-Dome tonight, Aug. 14, just before the 7 p.m. kickoff.
Cypress Bay enters the matchup after finishing 5-5 last season and missing the postseason. Merritt Island will take the field at the O-Dome for the first time in 2026 after posting a 7-5 record and reaching the regional semifinals a year ago.
Merritt Island will face a formidable opponent before the 2026 regular season begins when the Mustangs take on Class 7A Cypress Bay of Weston in South Florida.
Although Cypress Bay finished just 5-5 last season, the Lightning regularly compete against talented teams in a difficult district.
Records can sometimes be deceiving, as was the case with Merritt Island last season. Aside from two losses to Eau Gallie, the Mustangs’ other three defeats came by a combined 22 points.
With plenty of returning talent and a group of gifted transfers, this Merritt Island team is looking to make a splash in 2026.
The expectations extend beyond winning the district championship, as the Mustangs hope to make a deep run in the state playoffs.
