By Space Coast Daily // December 4, 2013
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — Heavy congestion is anticipated on Palm Bay Road between I-95 and Dairy Road and along both directions of I-95 at the access ramps to Palm Bay Road on December 4th and for several days following due to the opening of the new Bass Pro Shops Palm Bay store.
Heavy traffic is also anticipated on Riviera Drive and Bass Pro Drive. Motorists should expect slower than normal traffic due to the heavy congestion beginning as early as 3 p.m. on December 4th with the heaviest congestion occurring between 4 p.m. and lasting through approximately 11 p.m. Law enforcement will be manning all major intersections in the area during this time and manually controlling the traffic signals at Palm Bay Road and Bass Pro Drive (aka Hollywood Blvd).
Florida Highway Patrol troopers will also be along I-95 and at all access ramps for I-95 and Palm Bay Road to keep traffic flowing. Parking will not be allowed along I-95. Electronic sign boards are posted in the affected areas as a reminder to anticipate delays. Motorists will not be allowed to access Bass Pro Drive from Riviera Drive during this time, however access will be granted to workers and those with special permits.
The general public will only be able to access Bass Pro Drive from Palm Bay Road. Police may also restrict direction of travel at various intersections and motorists can expect detours. Residents living on the north end of Riviera are encouraged to use Port Malabar Blvd. as an alternate route or should allow extra time to travel through these intersections.
