Florida Tech Lacrosse Rolls Out 2014 Schedule

BREVARD COUNTY — After a season of many firsts, the Florida Tech men’s lacrosse program heads into its third season with 18 newcomers and 21 returnees looking to improve on a 6-8 season that earned head coach Ryan McAleavey Deep South Conference Coach of the Year honors, junior Andrew Conley all-DSC First Team Midfielder and senior Eric Biller all-DSC Second Team nods in the newly formed Sunshine State Conference.

The Panthers will play five of their 12 regular season games at Melbourne Central Catholic’s Hustler Stadium, including bouts against conference foes Saint Leo (March 14, 7 p.m.), Tampa (March 19, 7 p.m.) and FIT’s first-ever game against Lynn (April 5, 7 p.m.). “This is definitely the strongest recruiting class in our brief history,” said McAleavey. “We are excited to begin the season and have high expectations for our team heading into our third season.”

The SSC announced the sponsorship of men’s lacrosse last year and FIT, Rollins College, Florida Southern, Saint Leo University, the University of Tampa and first-year program Lynn University will compete in the conference. A high-scoring affair, the Panthers defeated the Lions, 16-15, on Feb. 12, 2013 for its first ever conference victory. Following suit, FIT downed the Tars, 9-5, on Feb. 16 to begin the 2012 season 2-0 overall and in conference play. Tampa and the Mocs defeated the Panthers later in the season.

The season begins on the road as the Panthers take on Coker College on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. FIT defeated the Cobras, 10-7, on March 1, 2013 and 11-9 in their inaugural meeting in Hartsville, S.C., on March 23, 2012.
