Panthers look to get back on track

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA  —  The Florida Tech Panthers will look to get back on track tonight when they face the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference play.

A home contest for the Panthers, the game will be played at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne.

The Panthers (12-6, 3-3 SSC) dropped their last SSC contest this past Wednesday night when they fell to No. 3 Nova Southeastern 80-71.

The Panthers held a six point lead at the half, but the Sharks took control in the second half behind a 14-4 run.

Senior Rita Acevedo led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points, and sophomore Tiesha Flagler matched her career-high with 15 rebounds.

Junior Kayk Wilson leads the Panthers in scoring this season at 18.5 points per game. That average is still the second highest in the conference behind Tyler Hardy of Barry who is scoring 19.1 points per game.

ECKERD HOPES TO END RECENT LOSSES

Eckerd (7-8, 1-5 SSC) comes into Saturday looking to end its recent slide. The Tritons have lost four straight games including a 67-63 decision to Saint Leo on Wednesday night.

The Tritons are led in scoring this season by Liga Vente who enters this weekend averaging 12.3 points per game.

Vente is one of three Triton players averaging double-figures in points along with Amy Buccilla (11.1) and Kayla Bowlin (10.9).  

The Panthers have controlled the all-time series as the teams will meet for the 59th time on Saturday.

PANTHER MEN WILL PLAY ECKERD FOLLOWING THE WOMEN

The Panthers have won 45 of the 58 matchups between the two clubs. The Panthers won both games over the Tritons last season.

Tip-off tonight is set for 5:30 p.m. in Titan Coliseum. Live stats and audio will be available at FloridaTechSports.com beginning with pregame at 5:15 p.m.

The Panther men will also face Eckerd following the women’s game. The Panther men will also be taking part in the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. Donations can be made during both games on Saturday.

After Saturday’s game, the Panthers will hit the road next week for a pair of SSC games against Barry and Lynn.
