The boy escaped the blaze, which gutted the house located on the corner of Lake View Boulevard and North Denton Circle, in Cocoa. He then bolted to a nearby Kangaroo convenience store and made contact with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Fire Marshal, the boy was left unattended for more than an hour, and the fire was sparked by a candle in the boy’s bedroom. Candles were being used because the home had been without power since Friday.
During the fire Hill claimed he was at the IHOP about 1/2 mile away.
