BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — With two locations in Orlando, Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. announced today that it has opened its third office in Melbourne, Florida and hired intellectual property attorney Stephen C. Thomas to expand the law firm’s depth of services and to better provide intellectual property services to clients in the area’s growing technology industry.

In addition, Jon Gibbs, who is a partner and chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Services Group, and other attorneys practicing in the intellectual property area will work with Thomas to grow the Melbourne practice and will provide patent prosecution, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and technology litigation.

The new office is located at 1901 S. Harbor City Boulevard, Suite 720 in Melbourne, Florida.

Thomas, who is a licensed U.S. patent attorney, serves as IP counsel for a number of business and university clients, and provides a full spectrum of guidance regarding IP licensing and royalty strategy, IP acquisition strategies, building and maintaining an enforceable IP asset portfolio, IP docket management, teaming/partnering strategies and related matters.

Thomas is also engaged in prosecuting numerous patent applications in the USPTO and is managing national stage filings of PCT applications in Mexico, South Korea, India and the European Patent Office.

Thomas comes to the firm from a boutique IP firm he co-owned in Melbourne. Prior to this, Thomas was employed by defense contractor Harris Corporation in Melbourne in a program management, technology development, and design engineering and systems engineering capacity.

These programs were high technology development programs that included hardware and software design for commercial, military, and NASA platforms such as F-16, F-18 E/F, F-22, F-35, Comanche helicopter, National Aerospace Plane, the International Space Station, air to ground and air to air weapons systems, and numerous other technologies and programs.

He held full profit/loss responsibility for approximately $40M in defense contracts with customers who represent industry leaders in defense contracting such as the Boeing Company and Raytheon Company.
