Week 6 Space Coast Daily High School Football Power Rankings, 5-0 Mustangs Ranked No. 1

Merritt Island/Titusville and Cocoa Beach/Satellite Highlight Week 6 Slate
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Around Space Coast, there were some intriguing matchups, some that looked to be great games and others that were not.
The top teams showed up and proved why they are the county’s best right now, while a couple of other schools are starting to find their stride. One exciting, unexpected matchup looms this week to see who really runs Beachside.

No. 1 – Merritt Island Mustangs (5-0)
The Mustangs do it again; another test came to town as Bishop Kenny looked to upset the undefeated Mustangs but couldn’t hold their lead for long. After the Crusaders scored on their first drive, Merritt Island’s offense did not slow down, putting up another 45 points. Merritt Island will have another test, this time in the district, with Titusville.

No. 2 – Eau Gallie Commodores (3-2)
Eau Gallie ended Cocoa’s 28-game in-county win streak a season ago, and while the Cocoa Tigers field a new team this season, the ones that remember that game were looking for revenge. Eau Gallie didn’t play the cleanest game, but they won 28-14. Both the Commodores and Mustangs are surely eyeing their meeting in a couple of weeks, but both need to take care of business before then.
Next game: Thursday, September 24 vs. Astronaut
No. 3 – Titusville Terriers (4-1)
Titusville did not overlook Harmony, a 46-6 victory in week-to-week performances. The Titusville offense seems to be humming and will need another great performance this week as they travel to Merritt Island. The matchup is not only between two heavy hitters, but is a major game in deciding the Class 3A District 8 standings.

No. 4 – Melbourne Bulldogs (3-2)
Palm Bay and Melbourne were a highly competitive rivalry less than two decades ago, but now one team is rebuilding while the other is heading for the top spot in the county. Melbourne wins comfortably over Palm Bay, and their bye week could not come at a better time, as they need to get prepared for Viera in a couple of weeks.
Next game: Friday, October 2 vs. Viera
No. 5 – Viera Hawks (3-1)
Viera’s bye week still had a game, as their district game against Lyman was rescheduled for last Monday. So although they did not play Friday, they still had a game last week, and they won big. The Hawks will now go out of state to play Catholic Memorial, one of the teams in Massachusetts. Whether they win or not, as long as they stay competitive, that will go a long way for their confidence for the rest of the season.

No. 6 – Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers (3-1)
The Hustlers have looked good this season; they haven’t been healthy all season and still hold a 3-1 record. Friday will be another test for the Hustlers as they have a huge district game with Wildwood. Ryan Schneider is looking to lead the Hustlers deep into the playoffs as he did with Cocoa for nearly a decade.
Next game: Friday, September 25 vs. Wildwood
No. 7 – Satellite Scorpions (6-0)
The weather delayed the Satellite vs Atlantic game, but the Scorpions went on to win 16-0 and set up an expected intriguing matchup this week. Satellite will prepare for the ‘Battle of the Beach’, featuring an undefeated Cocoa Beach as well as Satellite. Last season, the Scorpions pulled it out, 27-20.

No. 8 – Heritage Panthers (3-2)
