Sheriff’s Agents Investigate Shooting Death In Cocoa

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation relating to an incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Satellite Boulevard and Burning Tree Avenue in Cocoa.

The dead man has been identified by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office as Joseph Nilan, 67, of 7327 Eureka Avenue in Cocoa.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a dispute between Nilan and 56-year-old, Mark Allen Jenkins of 1540 Kingston Street in Titusville.
Sheriff’s investigators has determined that Jenkins and Nilan became involved in a verbal disagreement that escalated into a physical altercation where Nilan allegedly entered the doorway of Jenkins’ vehicle.
Nilan was shot during this physical confrontation and died at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit will present all evidence collected in reference to this case to the State Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed in this case.
