BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – We always love a story with an amazing ending, especially one that involves our citizens and Deputies partnering together for a rescue.

Recently, our Deputies encountered volunteers from the Kitten Angel Rescue attempting to locate a kitten that had been stuck in a storm drain for several days.

The kitten was luckily heard crying for help by a nearby Uber driver, and as a result, Brevard County Road and Bridge came out to lift the drains to assist with the search.

Ultimately, after hours of no success, the volunteers and crew decided to set a trap for the kitten in hopes of rescuing it.

The next evening, Deputy Burchfield came upon a vehicle blocking traffic, and soon learned it was the volunteers out trying to check for the kitten again. Deputy Burchfield continued to safely redirect traffic for quite some time, but still the rescue crew was unsuccessful in finding the kitten.

As everyone was about to call it a night, they suddenly heard the sound of metal clanking, and when they went over to investigate, they found “Stormy” walking around the trap.

Deputy Burchfield and the volunteers then muscled the drain cover off, giving Deputy Burchfield the ability to jump down into the drain and recover the trap.

After days of hard work, Stormy was finally in the hands of her rescuers.

I absolutely love how our community pulls together to help everyone in a time of need and to keep everyone safe.

This was an incredible effort by the Kitten Angel Rescue volunteers, Road and Bridge, BCSO Deputies, and the true “angel”, the Uber driver for reporting the sounds of Stormy stuck in the drain.

It takes a community to protect and community, and that includes our furry community members too.

Great job to everyone involved.
