Freshman qb led panthers to a 54-12 win

ABOVE VIDEO: Florida Tech quarterback Mark Cato was 7 out of 15 passing for 191 yards and a TD as he lead the Panthers over Stetson 54-12.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Redshirt freshman quarterback Mark Cato and junior right side hitter Kim Juriga have been named Florida Tech’s first Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the 2014-15 season.

Cato led the Panthers to a 54-12 win over Stetson in his first collegiate game in the team’s season opener last Saturday. His first passing attempt was a 69-yard touchdown strike to Xavier Milton.

He finished the game with four touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns to earn the program’s first Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week award and the conference’s first Freshman of the Week nod.

Juriga and the volleyball team picked up two wins during their Hawaii trip last week. In the four matches the team played, she either tied or led the squad in kills three times.

She finished with a team-high 37 kills, three service aces, 33 digs and nine block assists. She registered the Panthers’ first double-double of the season in their 3-2 win over Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday.

She ended the match with 14 kills and 16 digs.

Cato and the football team will play their first home game of the season on Saturday when they host Ave Maria at 6 p.m. at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium.
