Panthers Host Lynn In Sunshine State Conference Play

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech Panthers return home for the final four games of the regular season.

The home stand begins Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers face No. 6 Lynn at Rick Stottler Field. The match-up pits the top two teams in the Sunshine State Conference against each other.

The Panthers (7-3-1, 4-1 SSC) picked up a pair of victories on the road last week. The squad started the week with a 1-0 victory over No. 21 Tampa, and a 2-1 win at Eckerd. Junior keeper Mitch Thorn picked up his third shutout of the season at Tampa, which matched his total from the 2013 season.

Freshman Josh Thomas scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers against the Spartans. It was his third goal of the season.

Fellow freshman Tobias Hildmann scored his first career goal at Eckerd, and senior Drake Hillmanscored his fifth of the season against the Tritons. Sophomore Adin Kavara leads the Panthers with eight goals this season, the second most in the SSC.

Lynn (9-1-1, 4-0-1 SSC) sits on top of the SSC standings by one point over the Panthers with three conference games to play.

The Fighting knights went 1-0-1 last week with a 2-2 tie against Rollins, and a 3-1 victory over Florida Southern. Chris Hellmann leads Lynn and NCAA Division II with 15 goals and 36 total points.

The Fighting Knights and the Panthers are the top two offenses in the SSC. Lynn averages 2.64 goals-per-game while the Panthers average 2.36. Last season, the Fighting Knights earned a 1-0 victory over the Panthers.
